Sherry and Cliff come up with an irrigation plan while Alex waters

What do you do when the weather is sweltering hot and very dry? Call an emergency irrigation session! That’s what we did on Wednesday July 4th at 6.00 p.m.. Eight volunteers came to the park on one of the hottest days of the year so far to help us water our young trees with a hose and lots of buckets.

We do actually have an irrigation system which the city installed in 2009 with funds we raised through a generous Walmart-Evergreen grant. But unfortunately we have had ongoing problems with the pop-up sprinklers so we’re building up our bucket lugging muscles again this year.

There is so much to do in our park at the moment – including irrigation, weeding, herb trimming and more so for the next few weeks we are holding a weekly stewardship session on Wednesday evenings from 6.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m. Come and join us! Our thirsty trees, including our two newly-planted Paw Paws, will thank you…
