Raffle Prizes at This Saturday’s Fundraising Sale

 

The volunteers for the Ben Nobleman Park Community Orchard in mid-town Toronto are busy preparing our park for this coming Saturday’s fundraising sale (May 5, 2018 from 9am to 1pm)! Even the daffodils in our pollinator garden are popping up for the occasion.

Free Starbucks Coffee for All at the Event

If you come and join us, we’ll have free coffee for you to enjoy – donated by our local Starbucks. We’ll have homemake baked goods that you can buy as well as plants, books, housewares and other treasures. Come and join us! All the funds raised go towards the care of our fruit trees and pollinator garden.

Buy Great Stuff for Great Prices

Vibrant red dahlias will be amongst the plants on sale at our event.

We have collected both new and gently used things to include in our sale, including dozens of great hard cover thrillers (at just $2 each), new ceramic and plastic mugs donated by Starbucks ($2 or $3 each), housewares, costume jewellery, sports items and pet accessories. We have an oval mirror from Gingers ($30), some small furniture, wicker baskets and lots more goodies. And of course then there are the yummy baked goods that will go so well with your free coffee!

In addition to the sale, you can stroll around our orchard and check out our apple, cherry, asian pear, plum and apricot trees and ask the volunteers questions about what it’s like to grow fruit in the city. And of course, you’ll be able to buy tickets to this year’s raffle with great prizes donated by local businesses. Here are just a few of them:

Anna’s Pretty Nails at 1132 Eglinton Ave. West has donated two manicures, each worth $20.

Print Plus Sign at 1034 Eglinton Avenue West has donated a beautiful poster and $20 gift certificates that you can use towards printing business cards, brochures, or even printed t-shirts.

Mark’s Choice Veggie Gardener’s Prize includes a gardeners vegetable wash basket, lots of seeds, a fan nozzle and organic fertilizer.

Mark’s Choice, the brand of product selected and endorsed by Canada’s gardening guru Mark Cullen, has donated two amazing prizes for gardeners:

Simple Human is a fantastic company that makes “tools for efficient living” and they have donated three prizes, worth about $50 each. Their prizes include:

Community Orchard Fundraising Sale on Saturday May 5, 2018

Help support your community orchard and meet your neighbours at our first annual spring fundraising sale on Saturday May 5, 2018 from 9.00am to 1:00pm. If it rains we will hold the event on Sunday at the same time.

Each year, we at the Ben Nobleman Park Community Orchard in Toronto, have the same problem. Caring for fruit trees and a pollinator garden doesn’t cost a fortune, but it does cost money annually and as a totally voluntary group we have no funding to pay for organic fertilizer for our trees, plants and herbs for our pollinator garden, and funds to help pay for any events we organize in our park.

So this year we have decided to hold our first annual fundraising sale. On Saturday May 5, 2018 we will be in the park with a carefully curated collection of house and garden plants for sale as well as gently used housewares, small furniture and decor items, costume jewelry and women’s accessories, sporting goods and lots of fantastic gardening and fiction books.

We also will have a raffle where you will be able to buy tickets to win high value items and gift certificates from local shops.

We’d love it if you could come and join us! Do a little shopping and you’ll know that 100 percent of the funds raised will go to support our orchard, pollinator garden and our park activities.

We hope to also have some coffee donated by our fantastic local Starbucks and Sherry, a pastry chef and one of our key volunteers, will bake some delicious butter cookies that you can buy (money again goes to our orchard). Come and meet your neighbours while supporting a wonderful local project.

Our park is at Eglinton Avenue West between Everden Rd and Strathearn Road in Toronto and is just steps away from the Eglinton West subway station. We hope to see you there!

Coffee in the Garden 2017!

We hope you enjoyed our free event in Ben Nobleman Park Community Orchard. Coffee is the Garden was a wonderful success! Thank you to our local Starbucks and What a Bagel for donating coffee and cookies for us to share with our community. We met new people, got new volunteers and raised $120 to help us buy plants and supplies for our orchard and garden. Have a look at the video of the day and enjoy!
