Weeding, Wildlife and Pawpaws in Ben Nobleman Park

Wildlife is coming back to Toronto and people have noticed. With COVID-19 restrictions, traffic is lighter, the air is cleaner, and the city is quieter and so nature is moving back into the city. We saw that first hand in Ben Nobleman Park Community Orchard.

Mulching and Pruning in our Community Orchard

Dani is one of the Ben Nobleman Park Community Orchard’s new volunteers and her job for now is getting the trees ready for feeding by weeding the mulch circles and loosening the soil. And she’s doing a great job!

It’s May 12, 2020 and Toronto’s Ben Nobleman Park Community Orchard volunteers are back in action! Due to COVID-19, we have had to avoid the park for a while. But now, as the result of new city rules, community gardens are considered an essential service. After all, we are growing food and we all need food for a healthy and sustainable future.

Back to the Garden…But Gently!

Our historic plum tree is in full bloom in Ben Nobleman Park Community Orchard

I just spent a few minutes in Ben Nobleman Park Community Orchard today (on May 4,2020) and it was breathtaking. The sun was shining, the air was cool and crisp, and our old, historic plum tree is putting on a fantastic blossom show. And the cherry and apple trees are getting ready to do their own little blossoming performance. It’s magical.
