Pollinator Garden Reno

Finally the shagbark hickory trees get some attention in Ben Nobleman Park Community Orchard! And while some of us were caring for the trees, another group were giving our pollinator garden an overhaul…(Photo Credit: Alex Kent)

What a summer it’s been! A number of the volunteers of the Ben Nobleman Park Community Orchard have had some “health adventures” but does that stop the group from continuing to maintain, and transform, our beautiful park? No way!

This August Sherry took the lead in giving our pollinator garden a bit of an overhaul. It looked beautiful this year, but the Black Eyed Susans and Purple Coneflower had started to take over – so much so that you couldn’t even see the daylillies, autumn joy sedums, and our other plants and herbs. Coffee in the Garden In Ben Nobleman Park

Join us for free coffee and treats in Ben Nobleman Park on Sunday, July 23 at 11.30 am! Our park is located at the intersection of Eglinton Avenue West and Strathearn Road and is just steps away from the Eglinton West Subway station in midtown Toronto.

New Fruit Trees For Ben Nobleman Park Community Orchard

It was a moment we had long been waiting for. Over the years we had to remove a number of our fruit trees in Ben Nobleman Park Community Orchard. One of our paw paw trees died this past winter. And in 2015 and 2016 a cherry and apricot tree had bacterial canker and we had to dig them out to prevent this problem from spreading to other trees.

But this year, thanks to donations from our wonderful friends, families and neighbours, we were able to afford to buy three replacement trees to plant in our orchard and that’s what we did recently in our park. Continue reading →
