Some folks think of orchards as "fruit farms" - a functional swath of agricultural land where farmers grow fruit to sell to the public. But orchards can be beautiful. This weekend we took a trip to the Niagara region with guests from out of town and passed miles and miles of beautiful orchards. I'd love to go back when the trees are in bloom and during harvest time. One orchard we visited was on the magnificent grounds of the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens. We were dazzled by the greenery. There were old and rare trees - formal herb and vegetable gardens and impeccably manicured perennial beds. And on the way out I spotted their lovely little orchard with heirloom fruit trees.
